Our job shadowing experience at the Hong Kong Arts Centre with Ms. Tisa Ho was a precious experience. Not only did we gain insight into the field of art management, but we also reflected on how art could play a role in everyone’s life.
The visit to the Youth Outreach was the highlight of the day, we listened to the cases of some under privileged children and realised how fortunate we are to have a loving family and the school in providing us with various careers opportunities in paving our path, just like this job shadowing experience.
We really appreciate all the meticulous work done by the HKAF, it does not only provide a one-off art experiences to audiences, but produces a lot of preparation and framing programmes so that the audiences are ready to be receptive when watching the show. We’ve never thought that the organiser will put so much attention and care about their audiences, but in fact, they do, and making audiences informed is one of their missions.
Ms Ho also shared to us the Young Friends Programme, we were so hooked as the programmes were really fun. In fact, it is important to introduce art into the teenagers’ life as we begin to have the ability to interpret and understand artwork.
Through our conversations, we saw how passionate Ms Ho is, about her job. As she has said, two of the most important things are to enjoy what you do, and to focus on it. We will always bear this in mind when we choose our career in the future.

On the 13th and 14th of July 2019, I shadowed at Ngau Chi Wan Civic Centre as a front stage staff. During the two days, I took a step back and looked into different roles that people can take up in a troupe, apart from actors themselves. This made me realize the importance of teamwork to the successful production of a show. I also chatted with various staff and learnt more about the curriculum and structure of The Hong Kong Academy for Performing Arts. I was truly stunned by the opportunities that it provides to students in paving their career pathways.
Through watching the musical, I observed the extremely professional side of the actors. Though most audiences were kids, they still put forward all their effort in engaging them. Despite it was just a short play, they all arrived early in the morning to rehearse and prepared for it. Their serious attitude towards their duties inspired me a lot.
Although I was not assigned many tasks these two days, the lessons I have learnt through chatting with the mentors have made this experience a very fruitful one!
