Scientific Research
Mentor: Prof. Leung Mei Yee Kenneth
Kailey Chan, Natasha Ip, Yoyo Ngai & Janelle Wong
Throughout the three-day job shadowing, we were very privileged to have Professor Leung as our mentor and get to know his job as both an educator and a researcher.
During our visit to Lamma Island, we had the opportunity to witness the release of croakers back into the ocean. This illustrated the potential for ecosystem restoration while balancing between human needs and environmental preservation. We also participated in unique events such as visiting the research vessel Tan Kah Kee of the University of Xiamen. On the vessel, we learnt more about equipment specially designed for marine research and had the chance to view microfossil specimens under microscopes. It was eye-opening how research vessels provide valuable biological samples and first-hand data for further investigations.
Last but not least, we visited the State Key Laboratory of Marine Pollution at CityU, where Professor Leung introduced us to his colleagues. They shared their views on the future developments of marine conservation and introduced us to ongoing projects and the advanced technology at the lab. It was certainly a unique and rewarding experience, developing our interest in the research field further.

Mentor: Mr. Renee Li (Phase Scientific)
Charlotte Li, Cherie Ng, Alice Shum, Kelly Ye & Christy Yue
During our 3-day job-shadowing experience, we were grateful to be introduced to the technology of PHASE Scientific and to learn how their products come to life through marketing.
Our experience began with an overview of PHASE Scientific, including how the company operates and its various product lines. We then engaged in an insightful discussion with the CEO, Dr. Ricky Chiu during lunch, where we gained valuable insights from his experiences as an entrepreneur. Afterward, we had the opportunity to visit the research and development lab, where we learned about R&D processes and the core technology of PHASE Scientific, known as Phasify.
In the following days, we worked on our projects and had the chance to connect with both the marketing and research and development departments to gather inspiration and brainstorm ideas.
On the final day, we presented our projects and received invaluable feedback from Dr. Chiu. Overall, this job-shadowing experience deepened our understanding of biotechnology and the various career opportunities within this field. We truly valued this experience and are grateful for the insights we gained.
