Scientific Research

Mentor: Dr. Alan Wong
Melanie Ng, Jane Wong & Rachel Dai
Having a month of job-shadowing experience under Dr. Alan Wong, a general practitioner and medical article writer, allowed the three of us to gain a valuable insight into writing scientific research articles and critically analyzing them. We had weekly meetings to discuss our topics of interest, such as whether perinatal loss causes PTSD, how glutamate at different concentrations affects memory and effects of prenatal music exposure on fetal development.
At first, we were unsure and apprehensive about writing a proper research paper, something we had not done at school before. Yet, under Dr. Wong's guidance, we understood how to approach our research and were able to produce a scientific article of our own. He allowed us to step out of our comfort zone and taught us skills on how to obtain data/information from reliable sources, something that will be very useful for our future studies. We are grateful to Dr. Wong in guiding us and giving us valuable advice throughout the job shadowing period.
