Our mentor, Mr Wong guided us to write a research report independently throughout the whole summer. From the introduction to the final conclusion, he gave us comments and resources to build up the content of the report and helped us meet the standard of a good scientific paper. He enhanced our understanding on how to set up a thesis in a research as well as the requirements and procedures of an official paper. We both finished a section of the report and met up with Dr. Wong to discuss about the merits and demerits in our report. Dr. Wong taught us how to refine and improve our report. We have gained invaluable insights into the research field over the summer, not to mention writing our first research paper.

In the 5 days of our job shadowing, we had the valuable opportunity to work in different departments of the company, including human resources, administration, marketing, finance and research and development. It was a great experience for us to learn how every department work together for the company to run smoothly. We also got to use and write a report on the company’s unreleased product, INDICAID. It was interesting to learn about the technology involved in the making of the product, as well as how this product may be beneficial to people in the general public. Apart from that, we even had the honor of meeting and chatting with the company’s CEO, Dr Chiu and the CFO. They gave us a lot of valuable career advice and shared their views on how the biotechnology industry works. We had a wonderful time and certainly learnt a lot!
